WHY BREAST IS BEST
READ, READ, READ !!!!! This is your very best tool. If you are determined to educate yourself and know all that you can on the differences between breast milk and formula then pick up books and educate yourself on the topic. You can also do so much research online but why not make a special day or days out of it. Go to a local book store or library and pamper yourself with a great drink and READ. If you pick up a book on breastfeeding you will probably be able to read on the benefits within the first couple of chapters. The benefits have been studied and researched. There is a wealth of information on the subject and many great books written by respected board certified lactation consultants and pediatricians.

The great physical benefits of mothers first milk, colostrum or as some call “Liquid Gold”, contain immune factors that aid in immune function important to protect your baby in his first year of life. Studies state that breast fed babies are sick less often, are less likely to develop certain diseases, have less allergies, have higher IQ's and that breast fed babies are less likely to develop obesity. Also, research indicates that babies also benefit from Breast milk because it is always changing its composition depending on what mommy eats, this gets baby ready for solids. As for the physiological benefits of breastfeeding, the bonding that you gain as you breastfeed is so special and in my own personal situation the best thing I have ever experienced. Breastfeeding also benefits Mommy as well! Research states that women who breastfeed secrete hormones while nursing aiding in relaxation...we all need this while transitioning to a new baby. Research also states that women loose pregnancy weight faster than non breastfeeding mommies due to the extra daily 500 calories needed to produce breast milk. Most importantly mothers who breastfeed are less likely to develop breast and ovarian cancers. With this all stated, I'm sure with time and more research many more benefits will be discovered from breastfeeding that have not been found or stated.
